The Election Commission of Pakistan has launched an SMS service to facilitate 85 million voters in verifying their votes and removing errors from electoral lists.
The ECP has partnered with NADRA. This is a progressive move to enhance civic engagement. Their partnership was to provide an easy SMS service for suitable voters. It was to encourage checking voter registration status. It gave the public easy access to important information.
How to Check?
Eligible voters can type their CNIC number without hyphens or spaces. Then, the user can send it to the specified number, 8300. This response will benefit them. An automatic reply will be received. The automatic reply includes the name of the electoral area, block code, and serial number. By typing your CNIC and sending it to 8300, you receive an updated voter record and details of your assigned voting station. The spokesperson highlighted a service fee of Rs.2/- per SMS for this facility. They encourage all voters to promptly acquire voting details for themselves and their family members. He highlighted the importance of avoiding any problems at the polling station. The PTA has been notified about this initiative.
The ECP highlighted the importance of voters carrying CNICs to the polling station on Election Day. Even if the CNIC is expired, if voters use a token issued to issue a new CNIC, they can cast their votes without any hindrance.
Additionally, the ECP highlights inclusion by allowing every registered voter to confirm their details. The District Election Commissioner (DEC) offers another way to check electoral roll registration details.
The addresses and contact information of DEC offices across the four provinces are present on the official website of the Election Commission of Pakistan for the convenience of voters.
