Diljit Dosanjh Makes History, Sells ‘Biggest Punjabi Show Ever Outside India’

Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh made history at BC Place in Vancouver on Saturday. For the first show of his Canada-wide “Dil-Luminati” tour, the singer, songwriter, and director played to more than 54,000 sold-out fans on Saturday.

 During his “Dil-Luminati Tour” in North America, Diljit Dosanjh created history by selling out the “biggest ever Punjabi show outside of India”. In front of more than 50,000 spectators at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver, Canada, on the opening night of his tour, Dosanjh sang hits like “5 Taara,” “Lover,” “GOAT,” “Kinni Kinni,” and “Ishq Mitaye,” the hit song from his most recent film “Amar Singh Chamkila.”

“GOAT”, the title track from Dosanjh’s 2020 album, was played first. He came out of the ground in a cloud of fog with his hand raised. He looked stylish in a Punjabi kurta and chadra made of all-black fabric. He wore sunglasses, gloves, and a turban in the style of a Turla with a signature pleated fan accent. When she got the chance, the singer broke into Bhangra while confetti fell around her. The crowd cheered for him and joined in, and his picture was shown on two big screens, one on either side of him. During the whole show, local bhangra dancers stood behind him.

In 2022, he was the first Punjabi musician to sell out Rogers Arena. Dosanjh has become one of the most important global artists of our time. He was the first Punjabi singer of Indian descent to perform at Coachella just a year ago, and he has since made significant contributions to the global music scene, racking up hundreds of millions of streams on joint projects with Sia, Saweetie, and Camilo, respectively. Dosanjh most recently won praise from critics for his portrayal of the lead role in the Bollywood biopic Amar Singh Chamkila, which tells the story of the controversial Punjabi singer’s life and death who was killed in 1988 at the height of his fame.
