In the upcoming weeks, OpenAI is planning to introduce a store for GPTs. This store consists of custom apps that are based on its text-generating AI models (e.g., GPT-4). OpenAI claims that the developers will have to review the terms and regulations before building GPTs (Generative Pre-trained Transformers). The reason behind this policy is to ensure that their GPTs are compliant before they’re eligible for listing in the store aptly known as the GPT Store. Moreover, this store will also verify the profile of the user to make sure that GPTs are published as “Public.”
During the first annual developer conference in December, the GPT Store was announced. The conference was delayed due to a change in leadership shortly after the initial announcement of the GPT store in November. The change in leadership was due to the board of directors of OpenAI. They forced out CEO Sam Altman. After that, employees and investors panicked. So they decided to bring a new board.
Requirements for Developers:
The requirements for developers include that it cannot require any coding experience. Depending on the needs of developers, it can be simple or complex. For instance, a collection of cookbooks was trained on GPT. Then, it can answer questions about ingredients for a specific recipe. Alternatively, a GPT could process a company’s internal codebases. Developers could then use it to check their code style. Best practices code will also generated through GPTs.
The Flexibility of GPTs:
Developers can type the capabilities they want their GPT to offer in plain language. OpenAI’s GPT-building tool, GPT Builder, will then use AI to make a chatbot to perform those functions. Shortly after DevDay, developers can be able to create and share GPTs with others by using the ChatGPT website. However, they cannot publicly list them.
Plans for Monetization of the GPT Store:
It is still unclear whether the GPT Store will launch with a revenue-sharing scheme of any sort. As of November, Altman and CTO Mira Murati said that there wasn’t a firm plan for GPT monetization. The email about the upcoming launch of the GPT Store made no mention of what developers can expect in terms of payments. However, they said nothing about payments. A spokesperson of OpenAI told BizMediaUpdates that more about the GPTs Store will be revealed in the coming week.
The transition of OpenAI from an AI model provider to a platform is a significant development. In March, the company will introduce its initiatives by introducing plug-ins for ChatGPT. These plug-ins allow the users and third parties to integrate with the ecosystem of OpenAI’s model. For building creative AI apps, the launch of the GPT Store further confirms the OpenAI’s position.

GPTs effectively modify the creation of generative AI apps. This is particularly true for those utilizing OpenAI’s models.
