Box Office Crash for Anti-Pakistan Film ‘Fighter’ on Fifth Day

Box Office Crash for Anti-Pakistan Film 'Fighter' on Fifth Day

Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan’s latest blockbuster, Fighter, didn’t do well in its first week of release! Siddharth Anand’s drama ‘War’ crashed at the box office as the Indian media declared the film a flop a week after it hit the screens.

The film received a positive reception, emerging as the leader in the global box office rankings during its opening weekend, Pinkvilla said. The film also exceeded Hollywood productions in its home country. Despite a promising opening and positive buzz, Anand suffered a notable decline at the box office on Monday.

Fighter noticed a notable decline at the box office. On the fifth day, an estimated collection of only INR70-80 million was recorded. It marks nearly a 70% drop from its opening day (INR240 million) and an 82% decline from its second day (INR410 million) on Republic Day.

Fighter’s total earnings are approximately INR1.30 billion as of the fifth day. The notable decrease in collections increases concern about the film’s ability to reach the INR2 billion mark in India. Even if it achieves this milestone, more is needed, assuming the film’s reported budget is INR2.50 billion.

Criticism and Concerns Surface for “Fighter”

Fighter now stands at an estimated INR2.15 billion at the worldwide box office. After the failure of Vikram Vedha in 2022, Fighter is now Hrithik Roshan’s second flop film. Much to the dismay of Padukone’s fans, this will end the star’s successful streak at the box office, which began with Pathan last year, and is a major setback for director Anand, who, as director, was facing his first flop in his 19-year career.

Journalist Haroon Rashid Labels “Fighter” as Manipulative Propaganda

Early reviews offered criticism, mixing disappointment with concerns about the film’s handling of sensitive themes.

On Tiktok, Journalist Haroon Rashid did not mince words in his review of Fighter. He represented it as “one of the most insulting, hateful, offensive, manipulative pieces of propaganda from Bollywood.”

He expressed deep disappointment with the stars involved. He highlighted how upset he was with their participation in a project. According to him, it “misstates facts to such an extent that it puts forward a version of history that didn’t happen and starts hatred amongst communities.” The BBC reviewer repetitively conveyed his shock at the film’s content, thinking it deeply upsetting.

“Fighter’s” Reception May Influence Audience Engagement

The Fighter has sparked controversy and divided opinion in its early reviews. Critics have identified problems with narrative choices, depiction of history, and technical performance. A film’s success and reception will likely shape how audiences engage with its content and themes as audiences flock to theaters.
