A New York judge ruled Friday that Donald Trump must pay $354.9 million. They ruled Trump guilty of defrauding creditors by fraudulently inflating his net worth. Additionally, it may affect his business of owning buildings and property.
Justice Arthur Engron opened a new tab in a strongly worded ruling released after a contentious three-month trial in Manhattan. In which he also banned Trump, who is running for president again this year. He further said that he cannot serve as an officer or director of any New York corporation for three years. In addition, Trump’s lawyer, Alina Haba, vowed to appeal.
Trump Barred from Serving as Officer
Justice Arthur Engoron changed his mind about making new companies control Trump’s real estate assets. He decided it wasn’t necessary anymore. He said on Friday that there is no need for it. Because he was appointing an independent monitor and compliance director to oversee Trump’s business. Engron wrote in the ruling, referring to Trump and the other defendants in the case. He said that, were “Unable to admit the wrong of their ways.”
The judge, Justice Arthur Engoron, criticized Trump and his businesses for not showing any sorrow or admitting their mistakes. He said their behavior is like ignoring problems, even though there’s evidence against them.
Judge Criticizes Trump’s in Fraud Case Ruling:
Attorney General Letitia James in New York led the lawsuit, in which he accused Trump and his family of their business activities. One said he lied about Trump’s wealth to get better loan deals from banks. Moreover, they allegedly exaggerated his wealth by billions of dollars each year for about ten years. Trump says this lawsuit is just a political attack by James, who is a Democrat.
Trump called the judge, Justice Arthur Engoron, on his social media, “crooked,”. Also, he said, the New York Attorney General, Letitia James, is “corrupt.”
Furthermore, Trump also described the case against him as “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” and a “WITCH HUNT.”
Trump further wrote “This ‘decision’ is a Complete and Total SHAM. However, we cannot let injustice stand.” He said.
Criminal Cases of Donald Trump:
Four criminal cases have indicted Trump. Among them, one is related to payments to a porn star in New York. Moreover, the judge overseeing the case set a trial date of March 25. Moreover, Trump also faced charges for handling classified documents in the Florida post office. Additionally, accusations arose that he tried to overturn the 2020 election losses in Washington and Georgia.
Trump pleaded not guilty to the judge and James. He said this on the closing day of arguments in the courtroom on January 11 during the civil fraud case. Trump scolded Engron, saying, “You have your agenda.”
Engron then told the lawyer of Trump to “control your client.” Furthermore, the judge fined Trump $15,000 during the trial for twice violating the gag order against court staff.
